“I believe in simplicity. When it comes to design of buildings, or clothing or y’know even when it comes down to songs. Y’know don’t put everything in there; don’t try to be clever. If you start off with a good clear simple idea then that is what you got to hold on to. Sometimes it takes a bit of courage to keep things simple. But in the long run I think that’s what people can relate to more and something that just has a longer life.” - Stefan Olsdal

‘Slave to the Wage’ Placebo [Sziget 2012]

Why is he so good looking???

Gorgeous, why haven’t I seen these before.

What Rock ‘N’ Roll Taught Us“We were making quite a political statement in the context of that macho Britpop world during the mid-1990’s by doing things like appearing on ‘Top Of The Pops’ wearing dresses. We wanted to stand out like a sore thumb. But what it did was create a caricature of the band - like I’d see cartoons of me wearing a dress and having hairy legs. When you see that, you knowyour a caricature. I regret being so frank about mine and Stefan’s sexuality becuase it freaked people out so much but, then again, it was important for us to stand up and be counted. It was about freedom and tolerance and acceptance in a prejudiced world. It was something that people related to & things aren’t that bad any more. We played with Gossip at a festival recently and you can see that Beth Ditto is an icon. The music world is a lot more accepting now and I think weplayed our own little part in that.” — Brian Molko / NME—This right here is exactly why these two have been such an influence on me. They were the first band I ever really got into, and I loved them before I even knew anything about them, down to even what they looked like. But living where I do and having no real positive GLBT influence what so ever; this is what drew me into them more. Believing that you aren’t going to amount to anything because of yoursexuality and just seeing the two of them doing exactly as they please ; not caring one bit what people said was brilliant. It opened the door for me to realize that not everywhere and everyone is like the people in this goddamn town and you cannot let them stop you. You have to do whatever it is you want and if people have a problem with that then that is just their own fault. You shouldn’t have to change who you are and/or how you want to present yourself or your opinions based on what the majority of people think. You have to have the ‘fuck them all’ attitude, grow a tougher layer of skin and move on in life or else you really will never get anywhere. All you are doing then is surmising that their original opinion of you is right if you sit back and do nothing, and you will just end up a very unhappy individual if you allow yourself to be silenced. The safer route just isn’t living, you have to take the risk and just do it and damn them all.
